Fayette basketball wins home opener

Lemont Furnace, PA – The first home game of the 2017-2018 would occur yesterday for the Penn State Fayette men's basketball team. In the last two games, the men's team were on the road with the women's team. Both teams would take on Penn State Worthington on Friday and Penn State Wilkes-Barre on Saturday. The men's team were victorious against Penn State Worthington Scranton, but would fall to Penn State Wilkes-Barre. They would post the record of (3-3) overall and (1-1) in the PSUAC heading into the first home game of the season. Fayette would host another PSUAC team looking to move up in the standings, Penn State New Kensington. The stage was set in the Community Center Gym in front of the Fayette fans.

Penn State Fayette would defeat Penn State New Kensington, 75-65.

In the first half, Fayette would come out with a fast-paced attack. Marvin Sidon would set the tone early by hitting clutch 3-pointers in the first minutes of the game. Shots made by Atrayo Matthews and Jamar Dues would help Fayette as the first half would come to a close. New Kensington would respond with their own points in the paint and from the arc to take the early lead going into the half. Sidon would post 11 points in the 1st. The score would be 33-31, in favor of Penn State New Kensington.

The second half started with more dominant play by Marvin Sidon. He would continue to make great shots from range. He would post 16 points in the 2nd half. Iman Young had a great second half as well. Young tallied 10 points and 10 rebounds for Fayette that led to points. Atrayo Matthews and Jamar Dues would both have 7 points in the 2nd half. New Kensington would come out with the same effort in the 1st half, but the shots attempted by New Kensington would miss and Fayette would capitalize on those missed chances. Fayette would outscore New Kensington, 44-32, to lead them to their first home win of the 2017-2018 season.

Looking ahead, the men's basketball team will travel to Monaca, PA this Friday to take on Penn State Beaver in another PSUAC match-up. The game is set to begin at 8:00 PM. The men's team will look to continue their win streak on the road and in the conference.
