
MBB picks up win over York
Lemont Furnace, PA - Playing its first of five PSUAC conference games in eight days, the PSU men's basketball team downed PSU York Saturday, 63-54.
Fayette (6-14, 6-8) never trailed Saturday against York (14-5, 9-4) and held its biggest lead of the game, 26-14, with 4:40 to go in the first half when Marvin Sidon (Lahaina, HI/Lahainaluna HS) drilled a three-pointer.
York cut the lead to four, 28-24, with 1:11 to go in the first half, but Fayette held a 31-26 lead at the intermission.
A Justin Luton layup for York with 16:47 to go in the game trimmed the Fayette lead to 33-31, but London Hoxie (Menifee, CA/Paloma HS) hit a three-pointer moments later to extend the Fayette lead to 36-31.
Up 36-33, Fayette went on a 9-0 run to take a controlling 45-33 lead with 11:22 to play.
Larry Roscoe hit a three-pointer for York to cut the Fayette lead to 54-50 with 3:27 to play, but the hosts put the game away at the foul line down the stretch.
Hoxie led Fayette with 17 points while both Sidon and Iman Young (Silver Springs, MD/West Potomac HS) added 11 points each with Young adding 17 rebounds.
Luton scored a game-high 21 points for York.
For the game, Fayette shot 35.5% (22-62) from the field, 27.3% (6-22) from downtown and 76.5% (13-17) from the line.
York shot 37.7% (23-61), 20% (3-15) from beyond the arc and 55.6% (5-9) from the line.
Fayette is at PSU Beaver (12-6, 8-4) Monday for an 8:00 p.m. tip.
