MBB fights hard, drops weekend games

The young Penn State Fayette men's basketball team dropped a pair of hard-fought Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) games over the weekend.

Friday, Fayette (4-7, 3-3) fell at Penn State York (6-3, 3-1), 64-51.

"I thought we did a solid job defensively, but we just had a few spurts where we did not lock in on the details," first-year head coach Marcus Thomas said. "Offensively, we allowed their length and pressure to really take us out of our rhythm.  We were forced into a lot of difficult shots and weren't able to attack form the scoring areas.  We have to give them a ton of credit, but we must be better offensively."

Fayette played from behind the entire game as it never led, and the biggest discrepancies were in field goal shooting and chances at the free throw line.

For the game, Fayette only shot 37% (21-57) from the floor while York shot 44% (24-54) but made 12 of 19 (63%) free throws while Fayette only attempted four, making three (75%).

Trevor Laskody (Morgantown, WV/Trinity Christian HS) led Fayette with 13 points while Josh Hankins (Phoenix, AZ/Pinnacle HS) finished with a double-double after scoring 11 points and grabbing a game-high 12 rebounds.

York placed three players in double figures and was led by Richard Grant with 19 points.

Saturday, Fayette dropped a 78-66 contest at Penn State Mont Alto (8-2, 6-0).

"Overall, we didn't play consistently good enough throughout to win," Thomas said. "We have some good stretches where we look like a team on a mission, while other times we look a step behind.  "We have to string together 40 minutes of consistent basketball if we want to win, especially against good teams on the road."

Fayette once again struggled from the floor as it shot 37% (22-59) while Mont Alto shot 48% (30-62) from the floor.

Tavian Mozie (McClellandtown, PA/Albert Gallatin HS) paced Fayette with 20 points while Dom Boring (Lancaster, PA/Lancaster HS) had 13 and Laskody finished with 11.

Iman Young (Silver Springs, MD/West Potomac HS) finished with a game-high 15 rebounds.

Mont Alto's Quintyn Flemister led all scorers with 26 points.

Fayette returns home Friday for a PSUAC contest against Penn State New Kensington.

Tipoff is at 8 PM.
