MBB open season with road win at WCCC

The Penn State Fayette men's basketball team opened the 2012-22 campaign, and the Andy Hedrick era, Thursday night with a 94-65 win at Westmoreland County Community College.

"I am happy with the way the starters brought a lot of energy at the beginning of each half," said Hedrick. "We were also able to get a lot of fast break points and Moe Freeman shot the ball well for us in the first half."

Fayette (1-0) raced out to a 28-point lead in the first half before WCCC (0-1) trimmed the Nittany Lion lead to 48-31 at halftime.  However, Fayette went on another spurt to start the second half and the outcome was never in doubt.

Freeman (New Castle, DE/Salem Community College) scored 16 of his game-high 22 points in the first half while Dom Boring (Lancaster, PA/Lancaster HS) and Dasilas Jones (Fairmont, WV/Fairmont HS) also hit double figures with 17 and 15 points, respectively.  J'akir Hampton led WCCC with 21 points.

Fayette returns to action Sunday afternoon at Franciscan University.  Tipoff is set for 4:00 p.m.
