MBB eclipses 100 points again, win third straight

The Penn State Fayette men's basketball team continued its assault on the scoreboard Tuesday as it went over 100 points for the fourth straight game and earned its third straight win with a 108-82 victory over Penn Highlands.

Dasilas Jones (Fairmont, WV/Fairmont HS) led four Nittany Lions (4-1) in double figures with 37 points on only 13 shots from the field.  Jones made 11 of them, including four three-pointers in five attempts, while hitting 11 of 13 free throws.  He added 10 rebounds to record a double-double.  Matt Forbes (Verona, PA/Massabutten Military Academy) added 14 points, Mo Freeman (New Castle, DE/Salem Community College) scored 12 and Anthony Davis, Jr. (New Castle, DE/St. George's Technical HS) came off the bench to add 14, and head coach Andy Hedrick pointed out spoke about Davis, Jr. and the rest of the bench as they scored 32 points.

"I was very pleased with the way the bench picked us up tonight," he said. "Anthony hit a couple of shots and it sparked a comeback after a bad start."

Penn Highlands started fast and jumped out to a 27-11 lead with 11:22 to play in the first half before Fayette (4-1) exploded on a 45-14 run the rest of the half to take a 56-41 lead into the intermission.  The outcome was never in doubt in the second half as Penn Highlands would get no closer than 14 points the rest of the way.

Fayette shot 48.1% (38-79) for the game while Penn Highlands shot 41.1% (30-73).  On shots from beyond the arc, Fayette shot 32.3% (10-31) while Penn Highlands shot 34.8% (8-23).  The Nittany Lions shot 78.6% (22-28) from the free throw line while Penn Highlands shot 70% (14-20).

Fayette led in every statistical category, including rebounds (44-33), assists (15-2), second chance points (12-7) and points in the paint (44-32).  Each team had 17 turnovers.

The Nittany Lions are in the midst of four games in five nights and they head to Division II Slippery Rock tonight for a 7:00 p.m. tip before opening Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) play at Penn State Schuylkill Friday and then at Penn State Hazleton Saturday.
