MBB falls at DII Slippery Rock

The Penn State Fayette men's basketball team stepped up in competition Wednesday as the Nittany Lions fell at NCAA Division II Slippery Rock, 101-52.

Fayette gave their all and kept in close for most of the first half, according to first-year coach Andy Hedrick.

"We were in the game at halftime, but (Slippery Rock) came out and jumped on us to start the second half and we never recovered," he said.

Up 46-32 at the break, The Rock went on a 16-0 run to open the second half and they outscored Fayette in the closing 20 minutes, 55-20.

Dasilas Jones (Fairmont, WV/Fairmont HS) and Dom Boring (Lancaster, OH/Lancaster HS) hit double figures for the Nittany Lions with 20 and 13 points, respectively, with Jones grabbing a team-high eight rebounds.

Fayette shot 25.4 percent (17-67) for the game and only 18.2 percent (6-33) on three-point attempts while SRU shot 44.9 percent (40-89) from the floor and 27 percent (10-37) from downtown.

The Rock held a 58-22 advantage in the paint and scored 28 points off of 18 Fayette turnovers while the Nittany Lions were held to five points off of 12 turnovers.

Fayette returns to action Friday with its third game in four days as it opens Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference play at Penn State Schuylkill.  Tipoff is 8 p.m.

Fayette heads to Penn State Hazleton Saturday for another PSUAC game with the contest tipping off at 3 p.m.
