Men's Soccer has a new home field with Uniontown Area High School

Uniontown, PA- Penn State Fayette Athletics partners with Uniontown Area School District to make Bill Power Stadium their new soccer home.

As announced earlier this fall semester, men's soccer will be given a fresh start in August of 2023 and with that comes a new home. Penn State Fayette Athletics has partnered with Uniontown Area School District to use Bill Power Stadium for men's soccer home games for the new season in 2023. For new head coach Michael Wystepek that is excited about the community aspect of this partnership, this decision made him feel right at home.

"We are extremely excited to call Bill Power Stadium our home field," says Coach Wystepek. "As a soccer team, we are looking forward in using the stadium to help local soccer clubs promote the game of soccer within the local communities. For me, it's bittersweet because it was my home stadium as coach of Uniontown Girls Varsity Soccer and now, I'm coming back calling it home again!  Soccer is truly a worldwide sport that offers players the opportunity to gain experience and be great, but it takes years of development in skill, endurance, knowledge, and discipline to reach greatness. We hope to spread the love of the game to the youth of our local communities so they can begin their journey and grow to greatness as we play at Bill Power Stadium."

Uniontown Area Athletic Director Harry Kaufman, who has shown great support for Fayette starting a men's soccer program in the fall was very enthusiastic about the opportunity. Kaufman looks for this to be a positive experience in bringing Penn State Fayette and the school district of Uniontown together.

"We are very confident that this partnership will be extremely successful and allow our students, staff and community members to get excited about soccer and what it can bring to our area."

Kaufman also feels this will support Uniontown Athletics with the exposure of a college program being in the high school's backyard.

"Having Penn State Fayette utilize our facilities here at UHS not only allows are players and staff to experience a college program, but also the community the embraces soccer and the sport moving forward!"

For Penn State Fayette Athletic Director and Uniontown alumnus, Stephen Oberly this presents a chance to add to the strong rooting of soccer in the Uniontown area.

"I couldn't be more excited for our new venture with the Athletics Department at Uniontown Area High School. We've had a great relationship for many years; one that we are extremely grateful for," says Stephen Oberly. "We'll now have an opportunity to bring intercollegiate soccer to the greater Uniontown area and contribute to grass rooting the sport for years to come."

The first game of the season will be announced in summer of 2023, but the excitement is at an all-time high on both sides of the partnership.

Kaufman left us with this excitement in the interview, "I think just knowing that Bill Power Stadium will be the home to a college athletic team is really something to proud of in and of itself!"
