Salem completes sweep of Roaring Lions

HOPWOOD – Salem International pounded out 11 hits and scored 14 runs en route to a 14-1 victory over the Roaring Lions to complete a doubleheader sweep on Sunday.

Katie Mangold tossed a three-hitter and smashed two home runs and accounted for six RBI while Shelby Howell homered and drove in four.

After Salem ran out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first, Kasey Ruble homered to left centerfield to cut the lead to 4-1. That would be as close as the Lady Roaring Lions would get as Salem tacked on four more runs in the third and five in the fourth to take a 14-1 lead.

Lacey Mathews took the loss for Fayette, which drops to 0-4 on the season.
