Novotny Named Penn State Fayette Softball Coach

January 13, 2012

UNIONTOWN, Pa. - Penn State Fayette Director of Athletics Vince Capozzi has announced the hiring of Bethany Novotny as the Roaring Lions' next head softball coach. Novotny moves into the lead role after serving as an assistant coach under former head coach Tracy Hawkins last season.

Novotny, a 2010 Penn State Fayette graduate and two-sport student-athlete, starred for the Roaring Lions softball team for three seasons, earning All-PSUAC First Team honors as a third basemen her senior season. Novotny also played basketball for three years, earning a spot on Fayette's first women's squad during the 2007-08 season.

A native of Brier Hill, Pa., she excelled in the classroom as well, earning six United States Collegiate Athletic Association All-Academic honors in basketball and softball, one for each season she competed in. Novotny earned her degree in Human Development and Family Studies.

"I am very excited to have Beth join our softball program as the head coach," says athletic director Vince Capozzi. "I think she has a great understanding of what our program needs and I think she will be able to build on the foundation we already have and take our program to the next level."
