Fayette Sweeps New Kensington on the Road

Alcoa Field— The Penn State Fayette Lady Roaring Lions looked dominate with their seven game winning streak going in to this game against Penn State New Kensington. The Lady Roaring Lions swept New Kensington earlier in the week at home, and the Lady Roaring Lions were looking to sweep them on the road. The Lady Lions had no problem achieving that feat. Fayette pulverized New Kensington in the first game, and Fayette won in a closer second match against New Kensington.

In the first game of the doubleheader, the Lady Lions started off slow. They were shutout in the first inning, but they made some noise in the second. Rugg tripled on a line drive to center field. And Yates grounded out and two scored. The Lady Lions went on to score in the next two innings. They picked up a run in the third; but in the fourth inning, the Lady Lion's dominance showed why they were on a seven game winning streak. They had a top-notch six runs in. The final score was 12-3.

Penn State Fayette's Haley Rugg had 6 RBIs and 2 hits in the first match against New Kensington. Fellow teammate Aubree Yates had 3 RBIs. And Fayette's Emily Lewis, Emily Blaker, and Monica Yates each had a RBI.

In the second game of the doubleheader, the Lady Lions once against started off slow. They didn't score though until the fourth inning. Although New Kensington was able to pick up a total of four runs in the first two innings. The Lady Lions found themselves down four runs in the in the top of third, so they rallied back. In the top of the fourth they scored an impressive 7 runs in. The Lady Lions then went on to score 3 more in the seventh inning, and that was enough to make the sweep of New Kensington. The final score was 10-8.

Penn State Fayette's Aubree Yates had 3 RBIs and 2 hits. Fellow teammate Monica Joseph had 3 hits and a RBI. And Fayette's Hannah Kline, Miranda Nichols, Tiffany Markovich, Emily Lewis, and Haley Rugg each had a RBI.

The Lady Lions are now on a nine game winning streak and they are tied with Penn State Beaver for first place in the PSUAC West Softball Standings. Fayette will play a doubleheader at home against Beaver on Sunday. These are crucial games for Fayette if they wish to stay in that top spot in the West.
