Lady Roaring Lions sets eyes towards Brandywine

Oliver, Pa – It had been 3 years since the Lady Roaring Lions softball program had seen PSUAC postseason play. In a turn-around year, finishing second in the West, Fayette will see the second round of the 2017 PSUAC postseason.

On Friday, April 28th Fayette hosted 3rd seed Penn State New Kensington in the 1st round of the PSUAC softball postseason. Approaching the contest, Fayette secured a PSUAC conference record of 13-7 with an impressive 11 game win streak. New Kensington finished with a PSUAC 13-7 record – good for 3rd in the West.

Led by Aubrey Yates (Eighty Four, Pa), Fayette opened scoring in the 2nd with a single, scoring 2 runners. Miranda Nichols (Brownsville, Pa) would follow up adding a 3 RBI double putting Fayette up 5-0 going in to the top of the 3rd. Tiffany Markovitch (Brownsville, Pa) would eventually add another driving Nichols in with a double in the 5th.

Reminiscent of regular season contests, Fayette thwarted New Kensington in an impressive 6-0 shutout.

Showing a competitive effort at the plate, New Kensington could not drive in a run. With notable performances at the plate from Stephanie Schrecengost (Freshman), Brittney Wolford (Sophomore), and Rebecca Wilhelm (Sophomore), the Roaring Lions managed to lock down New Kensington with solid pitching and defensive play.

Led under the direction of Interim Head Coach, John Miller, the Lady Roaring Lions will look to continue their postseason tear as they plan for an unfamiliar but intimidating opponent and PSUAC East 1st seed, Penn State Brandywine. Game is set for a 1:00pm start on May 7th at Penn State Scranton.
