Fayette Splits with Rival Greater Allegheny Behind Markovitch No-Hitter

Lemont Furnace, PA - Penn State Fayette continued division play Thursday with a home doubleheader against Penn State Greater Allegheny. Greater Allegheny would take Game 1 with Game 2 going to Fayette.

Fayette opened the scoring in the second inning, with Rachel Hartley driving in Chanel Porter, and would add to their score when Aubree Yates stole home on a passed ball.

Greater Allegheny would get on the board with Lacie Launter singling home Ivy Mervis, add on two unearned runs in the 5th.

Kelsey Holp's RBI double for Fayette would bring the score to 4-3 in the 6th.

Greater Allegheny put the game away in the top of the 7th, when a fly ball was mishandled, allowing 3 runs to score. Lacie Lautner went the distance for GA, allowing 3 runs (2 earned) on 5 hits.

Casey Hite took the loss for Fayette, allowing 7 runs (2 earned) on 7 hits, while striking out 8.

Fayette's bats came alive in game two, but the real highlight of the game was the pitching performance of reigning PSUAC Pitcher of the Week Tiffany Markovitch, who did not allow a hit.

Fayette opened the scoring in the 2nd, with Holp drawing a bases loaded walk and would add on with a sacrifice fly by Hite. A double by Porter drove in two more runs.

The game would end in the 5th, due to the 8 run mercy rule after RBI base hits by Hartley, Yates and Caitlin Brown. Tiffany Markovitch pitched a gem for Fayette allowing no runs on no hits, striking out 7.

Tara Love took the loss for GA, allowing 8 runs on 11 hits.

Penn State Fayette returns to action Friday afternoon as they host Penn State New Kensington.
