SB drops double header to Waynesburg

Lemont Furnace, PA - The Penn State Fayette softball team was swept Saturday by Waynesburg.

The Nittany Lions (1-8) were shut out in the opener, 11-0.

Limited to a pair of singles, one by Katie Kelley (Fairchance, PA/Albert Gallatin HS) and the other by Casey Hite (Bentleyville, PA/Bentworth HS), Fayette fell behind 5-0 in the second.

Alex Lawrence led off the second for Waynesburg with a home run and it would be the only run the guests would need in the five-inning contest.

Waynesburg won the second contest, 13-6.

Trailing 7-0 going into the bottom of the third, Fayette scored twice.

Chanel Porter (Cumberland, MD/Allegany HS) singled in Madison Knight (Clarksburg, WV/Robert C. Byrd HS) and then Mastowski scored on an RBI single off of the bat of Ally Hawkins (Morgantown, WV/Morgantown HS).

Fayette appeared primed to add more runs as it loaded the bases, but it could not bring home any more runners.

Down 8-2, Fayette scored three runs in the fourth to make the score 8-5, but Waynesburg put the game away with five runs in the fifth.

In the fourth, Knight doubled in Danielle Jones (Uniontown, PA/Laurel Highlands HS) and then Mastowski brought in Hannah Kline (Fayette City, PA/Frazier HS) and Knight with a two-run double.

Hite, Jones, Knight and Mastowski each had two hits in the nightcap as Fayette recorded 12 hits.

Fayette returns to the diamond Friday, March 22 when it hosts Penn State Greater Allegheny in a double header to open PSUAC play.
