Lemont Furnace, PA - The weather may have been cold, but the Fayette bats were hot Saturday, as they swept both games of their PSUAC doubleheader 19-0 and 16-0, respectively.
Fayette got off to a fast start when leadoff hitter Aubree Yates and Destiny Habeck both bunted for base hits, and were then driven in on a single by Ally Hawkins. Back to back singles by Casey Hite and Tiffany Markovitch, followed by a hard hit ball by Danielle Jones would give Fayette 5 runs in the opening inning.
Fayette would then take advantage of 4 GA errors to score 7 more runs in the 3rd.
In the 4th, singles by Madison Knight, Chanel Porter, and Katie Kelley would plate 2 more runs. Fayette would close out the scoring in the 5th on doubles from Markovitch and Yates, as well as a single by Lauren Mastowski.
Tiffany Markovitch pitched a gem for Fayette, allowing only 2 hits and striking out 11 in only 5 innings.
The Fayette bats stayed hot in game 2, as they once again put up 5 runs in the 1st inning on RBI hits from Kelley, Hite and Mastowski.
A Jones double followed by back to back triples from Porter and Habeck led a 6 run 3rd inning.
The scoring would end in the 4th, with an exciting inside the park home run from Porter, who would finish the day with 7 RBIs to lead the team. Yates also had an impressive day at the plate, finishing the day with a .750 average.
Ally Hawkins pitched a great game for Fayette, picking up her first collegiate win, allowing only 4 hits and striking out 5.
Fayette opens the home portion of their PSUAC schedule Wednesday afternoon as they host Greater Allegheny for a doubleheader, with first pitch scheduled for 2PM.
