Softball scores 25 runs in sweep of DuBois

Dubois, PA - The Penn State Fayette softball team exploded for 25 runs and 27 hits in a double header sweep at Penn State DuBois Wednesday.

With the wins, Fayette (9-12, 8-4) moved to within one game of DuBois (11-8, 9-3) for second place in the PSUAC West division.

In the opener, Fayette won 13-0, Katie Kelley (Fairchance, PA/Albert Gallatin HS) had four hits (double, three singles) and drove in three runs while Chanel Porter (Cumberland, MD/Allegany HS), Casey Hite (Bentleyville, PA/Bentworth HS) and Ally Hawkins (Morgantown, WV/Morgantown HS) each had two singles.

Lauren Mastowski (Dawson, PA/Frazier HS) drove in three runs while Tiffany Markovitch (Brownsville, PA/Brownsville HS) added a double.

Markovitch went the distance on the mound and limited DuBois to three hits while striking out five.

In the second game, Fayette won, 12-3.

Trailing 3-2 after four innings, Fayette scored five runs in the fifth and added five more in the seventh.

Hite led the way offensively with three hits while Mastowski, Kelley, Markovitch and Aubree Yates (Eighty-Four, PA/Bentworth HS) each recorded a pair of hits.

Kelley had a triple and three RBI while Mastowski and Danielle Jones (Uniontown, PA/Laurel Highlands) each drove in a pair of runs.

Markovitch earned her second win of the day as she went five innings before Hite closed things out in the circle.

Fayette heads to Penn State New Kensington (8-16, 4-8) Friday for a double header.
