SB sweeps WCCC; Markovitch throws no-hitter

Lemont Furnace, PA - The Penn State Fayette softball team's win streak is up to six games as it swept Westmoreland County Community College on Sunday.

After falling behind 1-0 in the first, Fayette (13-12) took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the inning.

Aubree Yates (Eighty-Four, PA/Bentworth HS) hit a two-run home run in the fourth and Fayette added another run in the fifth.

Lauren Mastowski (Dawson, PA/Frazier HS) doubled in two runs to highlight a three-run sixth for Fayette.

Mastowski, Casey Hite (Bentleyville, PA/Bentworth HS), Katie Kelley (Fairchance, PA/Albert Gallatin HS) and Ally Hawkins (Morgantown, WV/Morgantown HS) all had two hits with Kelley, Hawkins and Danielle Jones (Uniontown, PA/Laurel Highlands) all having triples while Mastowski, Hite and Hawkins each added doubles.

Hawkins went the distance in the pitcher's circle to earn the win and struck out four batters.

Tiffany Markovitch (Brownsville, PA/Brownsville HS) threw a no-hitter in the second game to pace Fayette to an 8-0 win.

She struck out five batters and only allowed one runner to reach base due to an error.

Offensively, Madison Knight (Clarksburg, WV/Robert C. Byrd HS) led the way with three hits while Hawkins, Markovitch and Yates all had two hits apiece with Knight and Hawkins both recording doubles.
