SB winning streak hits eight

Lemont Furnace, PA - The Penn State Fayette softball team extended its season-best winning streak to eight games with a PSUAC sweep at Penn State New Kensington on Tuesday.

With the wins, Fayette (15-12, 12-4) sits one game behind second place Penn State DuBois (15-8, 13-3) for second place in the PSUAC West Division and two games behind leader Penn State Beaver (25-9, 14-2).

In the opener Tuesday, Fayette scored four runs in the fifth to break open a 2-1 game en route to a 6-1 win.

Lauren Mastowski (Dawson, PA/Frazier HS) led off the inning with a home run and Ally Hawkins (Morgantown, WV/Morgantown HS) followed with a two-run triple before scoring on a Tiffany Markovitch (Brownsville, PA/Brownsville HS) double.

Markovitch went the distance to earn her ninth win in the pitcher's circle as she struck out four batters.

Mastowski, Hawkins and Aubree Yates (Eighty-Four, PA/Bentworth HS) each had two hits with Hawkins, Markovitch and Casey Hite (Bentleyville, PA/Bentworth HS) all having doubles.

In the second game, Fayette won 7-2.

Mastowski drove in Fayette's first three runs with a first inning sacrifice fly and then RBI doubles in both the third and fifth.

Danielle Jones (Uniontown, PA/Laurel Highlands) hit a sacrifice fly in the sixth to make the score 4-1 and then Yates had a two-run double in the sixth.

Katie Kelley (Fairchance, PA/Albert Gallatin HS) closed the scoring in the seventh with a solo home run.

Yates, Mastowski and Kelley all finished with three hits a piece to lead Fayette's 12-hit attack.

Kelley finished with her home run and a double, Mastowski had the two run-producing doubles and Yates had a double.

Hawkins earned the win on the mound as she struck out four hitters in 4.2 innings of work with Markovitch closing out the game.

Fayette is at Penn State Mont Alto for a double header Friday.
