Softball drops opening double header

Dubois, PA - The Penn State Fayette softball team opened its 2021 season Saturday as it was swept at Penn State DuBois in conference action.

The opening game ended in five innings, 14-1, while the nightcap ended in three innings, 16-1.

PS DuBois is expected to be one of the better teams in the Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) and was able to get a jump on Fayette in both games.

It will take Fayette some time to integrate its six new players with the eight returning players, including six starters.

It will take time, much like what head coach John Miller said during his preseason press conference when asked about the team being thrown into the fire without many practices, like every other team.

"This off-season was different from past ones and especially difficult due to the uncertainty and life-changing events that everyone has faced," he said. "This softball program has, and will always, overcome adversity.  Every member of this team is thankful to be having a season and we will not take a moment for granted."

Fayette returns to action when it hosts PS DuBois for a non-conference double header on Tuesday, March 16.

The games are scheduled for 2:00 and 4:00 p.m.
