Softball drops pair to PS DuBois

Lemont Furnace, PA - The Penn State Fayette softball team hosted their first games in over a year on Sunday as a talented Penn State DuBois team came to Lemont Furnace for a double header, but unfortunately for Fayette, it dropped both games.

In the opener, DuBois (4-0) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning and added a run in the top of the fourth to take a 4-0 lead.

Fayette (0-4) got on the board with a run in the bottom of the inning when Lauren Mastowski (Dawson, PA/Frazier HS) scored on a two-out error after leading off the inning with a double.

The 5-1 score held until the sixth inning when DuBois exploded for six runs on five hits and was aided by a pair of Fayette errors.

Hope Hixon (Armagh, PA/United HS) drove in Kelsey Holp (Grindstone, PA/Frazier HS) in the bottom of the sixth to close the scoring.

Seven Fayette players recorded a hit with Mastowski having a double and Lauran Minerd (Uniontown, PA/Albert Gallatin HS) recording a triple.

Hixon went the distance on the mound for Fayette.

In the nightcap, DuBois shut out Fayette, 8-0.

Mastowski recorded two of Fayette's four hits in the game and is hitting .400 (4-10) on the young season while Fayette is hitting .205 (17-83) overall in its four games against DuBois.

After a few days off, Fayette will play six Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) games between Thursday and Saturday as it is scheduled for double headers each day.

On Thursday, Fayette heads to PS Greater Allegheny before heading to PS Mont Alto Friday for two more games.

Saturday, Mont Alto comes to town to finish off the busy stretch.
