SB drops double header at first place Mont Alto

Mont Alto, PA - Friday, the Penn State Fayette softball team went to Penn State Mont Alto looking to pick up their first win of the season.

Unfortunately, Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) West division leading Mont Alto (5-1 overall, 4-0 PSUAC) swept Fayette by scores of 13-1 and 10-3.

In the four-inning opener, Mont Alto scored four runs on four hits in the first inning and was aided by a Fayette error.

After adding a run in the second, Mont Alto erupted for eight more in the third on eight hits.

Fayette (0-8, 0-4) scored its lone run in the fourth.  With one out, Kelsey Holp (Grindstone, PA/Frazier HS) singled and two batters later, she scored on an RBI double by Kylie Saltis (Mount Clare, WV/South Harrison HS).

In the nightcap, Fayette gave up another big inning and it was the difference in the game.

Down 1-0 in the top of the third, Fayette scored three times to take a 3-1 lead.  Carissa Cyphert (Scottdale, PA/Southmoreland HS) walked to lead off the inning and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Cassidy Uphold (Grantsville, MD/Northern Garrett HS).  Lauren Mastowski (Dawson, PA/Frazier HS) followed by reaching base on an error.   Cyphert, who moved to third on the miscue, scored on a wild pitch and two batters later, Kristina Aeschbacher (Carmichaels, PA/Carmichaels HS) gave Fayette a 2-1 lead as she singled in Mastowski.  After Mont Alto recorded the second out of the inning, Hope Hixon (Armagh, PA/United HS) drove in Aeschbach with an RBI single to give Fayette its 3-1 lead.

The lead lasted until the fifth when Mont Alto put the game away as it scored eight runs on six hits and was aided by a Fayette error.

Lauran Minerd (Uniontown, PA/Albert Gallatin HS) led Fayette with three singles in the second game while Aeschbach added two of her own.

Fayette finished the game with eight hits, but it left 11 runners on base.

The two teams turn around Saturday with another double header, this time at Fayette.
