New Kensington, PA - Penn State New Kensington swept Penn state Fayette Sunday afternoon.
In the opener, a 9-0 shutout, Calle Zmenkowski limited Fayette (3-19 overall, 3-15 PSUAC) to five hits, with Kelsey Holp (Grindstone, PA/Frazier HS) looking best with a double while five New Kensington (12-12, 11-11) recorded 10 hits off of Hope Hixon (Armagh, PA/United HS).
In the 12-1 nightcap, New Kensington jumped out to a 6-0 lead before Fayette was able to get on the board with an unearned run in the fourth. New Kensington scored six in the bottom of the inning to ice to take away any hope of a Fayette comeback.
Hixon and Larisa Lumbardo (Connellsville, PA/Southmoreland HS) each singled for Fayette while New Kensington finished with 11 hits. Fayette left four runners on base.
Fayette closes the season today when it hosts Penn State Beaver (14-8, 14-8).
