Early struggles too much to overcome at Beaver

Shooting only 22 percent in the first half to put themselves in a 14-point hole, the Penn State Fayette Lady Roaring Lions could not bounce back, falling to Penn State Beaver, 79-52, in a PSUAC West division game. The loss drops Fayette to 9-3 in the conference, but they remain in third in the conference standings behind Beaver and Penn State Brandywine.

 

The Lady Roaring Lions were led by sophomore Kaitlyn Novak with eight points, while sophomore Nicole Garrety chipped in seven points and a game-high eight rebounds. Sophomore Kasey Ruble also had seven points, while freshmen Jill Guthrie and Stephanie Longo each added seven points.

 

Beaver outrebounded Fayette 45-36 and turned 26 turnovers into 22 points. The Lady Roaring Lions shot only 31 percent for the game (19-for-60), struggling early from the floor.

 

Beaver was led by Jasmine Green with 28 points while Brooke Mulniex added 12 points. Mia Smith contributed 11 points to round out the Lady Lions' players in double figures.

 

Fayette has a week-long break before hosting the conference's current second place team, Penn State Brandywine, on Saturday, Feb. 12, at 1:00 p.m. in the Community Center Main Arena. The Lady Roaring Lions wrap up their regular-season with a home contest against Penn State DuBois on Tuesday, Feb. 15, at 6:00 p.m.
