Pioneers top Lady Roaring Lions

December 2, 2010—West Mifflin, Pa.

NAIA opponent Point Park toppled the Lady Roaring Lions for the second time in two weeks, taking home a 92-45 victory in the CCAC South Gymnasium. Fayette could not match the Pioneers size advantage, as Point Park took an early 12 point lead which the Lady Roaring Lions could not cut into.

The Lady Roaring Lions were led by sophomore forward Kayla Hatfield, who scored 12 points and sunk both of her three-point field goal attempts. Junior guard Heather Burton had a season-high eight points while sophomore guard Kasey Ruble also chipped in with eight. Fayette shot nearly 40 percent from three-point range in the second half, but it was not enough to mount a comeback.

Point Park was led by Sarah Sandin who had 15 points and eight rebounds, while Anna-Maria Boshkova, Ashley Henderson and Kristen Beatty each contributed 13 points. Joncelyn Peterkin had a game-high 12 rebounds as Fayette struggled to keep the Pioneers off of the offensive boards.

Fayette had a season-low 16 turnovers, but still could not create enough offense to stay with Point Park's size, as the Pioneers outscored the Lady Roaring Lions 38-12 in the paint.

The Lady Roaring Lions next travel to Penn State York as they open up conference play on Dec. 4 at 1:00 p.m. Fayette opens up their home conference slate on Dec. 11 against Penn State Schuylkill—time still is to be determined.
