Lady Roaring Lions battle, fall to Waynesburg

The Penn State Fayette women's basketball team fell to Waynesburg University, 69-48, Tuesday night in Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse. The Roaring Lions fell to 0-3, following losses to Carlow University and Mercyhurst North East in the Penn State Greater Allegheny Tip-Off. Waynesburg, a NCAA Division III member, moved to 1-0 in their season opener.

 

The Roaring Lions were led by sophomore guards Kaitlyn Novak and Kasey Ruble, who scored 13 and 11 point, respectively. Each guard also grabbed five rebounds to tie for the team-high with junior guard Jen Thomas and sophomore forward Kayla Hatfield. Hatfield added eight points.

 

Fayette held Waynesburg to 9-of-46 shooting in the first half, taking a 30-29 advantage into halftime. The Roaring Lions battled in the second half, but Waynesburg hit four three point baskets to pull away.  Fayette struggled beyond the arc, shooting only 22 percent.

 

The Roaring Lions travel to Hampton, Va., for the Great Ships Classic where they will face Southern Virginia University on Friday, Nov. 19, at 6 p.m. They will then take on the host, the Apprentice School, on Saturday, Nov. 20, at 3 p.m. The team will open up their home contests on Monday, Nov. 22, at 5:30 p.m. against Point Park University in a men's and women's doubleheader.
