Lady Roaring Lions fall to Beaver for first conference loss

January 24, 2011--Uniontown, Pa.

 

Despite a program best 4-0 start to the conference season, the Penn State Fayette Lady Roaring Lions basketball team could not take down conference foe Penn State Beaver, falling 78-48 in PSUAC action. Beaver improves to 9-0 in the conference, holding onto sole possession of first-place.

 

Fayette struggled with turnovers early, and despite only trailing by 10 at halftime were unable to gain enough momentum to make a run. Sophomore Kayla Hatfield led Fayette with 12 points, despite playing through foul trouble, while sophomore's Kasey Ruble and Kaitlyn Novak each chipped in eight points. Sophomore Nicole Garrety grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds, including five on the offensive end.

 

Fayette outrebounded the Lady Lions 43-42, but struggled to make shots in the second half, shooting only 24 percent. The Lady Roaring Lions made four three-point field goals in the first half, including two by Novak.

 

Beaver was led by Heather Sandusky with 21 points while Jasmine Green scored 14.

 

The Lady Roaring Lions next host Penn State Hazleton on Friday, Jan. 28, at 6:00 p.m. followed by Penn State Wilkes-Barre on Saturday, Jan. 29, at 1:00 p.m. in the Community Center Main Arena.
