Scoring surge takes Lady Roaring Lions to 4-0 conference start

A barrage of scoring that included four Lady Roaring Lion players in double figures led to a 76-29 victory over Penn State Mont Alto in a PSUAC match-up. The win improves the Penn State Fayette women's basketball team to 4-0 in the conference, and 4-9 overall. Fayette currently is third in the PSUAC, only a half-game behind division leaders Penn State Beaver and Penn State Brandywine.

 

Every Fayette player scored at least two points, the first time that has occurred this season. Freshman Jill Guthrie led all scorers with 12 points, while junior Jen Thomas and freshman Stephanie Longo each added 11. Sophomore Kaitlyn Novak scored 10 to round out the Lady Roaring Lions in double figures. Longo grabbed a team and career-high eight rebounds to help Fayette outrebound Mont Alto 43-37.

 

The Lady Roaring Lions took an early lead on hot shooting, going 21-for-41 from the field in the first half, including 4-for-8 from three-point range. The Lady Roaring Lions scored a season-high 50 points in the first half. Fayette finished the game shooting 39 percent (30-for-77). Ten Fayette players had assists, as the Lady Roaring Lions racked up 20 assists on their 30 made field goals, their highest total of the season.

 

Mont Alto was led by Colleen Loncar with nine points and nine rebounds, while Morgan Maslanik pulled down 11 rebounds to go with her seven points.

 

Fayette takes a nine day hiatus before returning to action on Monday, Jan. 24, when they host Penn State Beaver at 6:00 p.m. for first-place in the PSUAC West Division. It will also be THON night, as T-shirts will be given to the first 100 students in attendance and admission and 50/50 sales will be donated to THON.
