Lady Roaring Lions' season ends against Apprentice

March 3, 2011--Uniontown, Pa.

 

The Penn State Fayette Lady Roaring Lions were dropped by The Apprentice School, 84-52, in the consolation bracket of the 2011 USCAA National Basketball Championships at Penn State Fayette. The loss ends the Lady Roaring Lions' season, as The Apprentice School advances to the ninth place game against Penn State Brandywine at 11:00 a.m. in the Maltho Gymnasium at Penn State Fayette.

 

Fayette was led by sophomore Kaitlyn Novak with 14 points while freshman Jill Guthrie scored 12 points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds. Playing in their final game for the Lady Roaring Lions, junior Jennifer Thomas and sophomore Kayla Hatfield each scored seven points. Sophomore Nicole Garrety, also playing her final game with Fayette, had three rebounds and a block.

 

Apprentice was led by Denise Hamilton with 13 points while Courtney Collins chipped in 12 points and 11 rebounds.

 

The 2010-11 season was the most successful one in the short history of the program. The 11 wins, including 10 regular season conference wins, set a new record for the four year old program. The Lady Roaring Lions also qualified for the PSUAC playoffs for the first time, while also hosting and winning their first ever playoff game against Penn State Schuylkill, advancing to the PSUAC Semifinals at the Bryce Jordan Center in University Park, Pa.

 

Fayette returns nine players from its current roster, including three starters. The 2011-12 schedule will be announced during the summer.
