Fayette's Strong Shooting Earns Win Over Schuylkill

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN, Pa. - Senior Jennifer Thomas (Uniontown, Pa.) led four Fayette players in double-figures, scoring a season-high 18 points, as the Penn State Fayette women's basketball team rolled to an 89-53 win over host Penn State Schuylkill in a Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference match-up.

 

Fayette (3-3, 2-0 PSUAC) shot a season-high 53 percent from the field en route to increasing their win streak to three consecutive games.

 

Junior Kaitlyn Novak (Bobtown, Pa.) added 17 points for the Roaring Lions, shooting 8-for-13 from the field, including two three-point field goals. Sophomore Jill Guthrie (Vanderbilt, Pa.) scored 17 points and six rebounds, while junior Kasey Ruble (Fairchance, Pa.) added 14. Freshman Caitlin Wontroba (Uniontown, Pa.) rounded out the Fayette players in double-figures with 13 points and added a career-high nine assists.

 

Fayette jumped out to an early lead in the first half, and led 54-26 at the break. The Roaring Lions shot a program best 69 percent in the first stanza. Despite cooling off in the second half, Fayette was able to increase its lead and win comfortably in their first conference road game of the season.

 

The Roaring Lions outrebounded Schuylkill 37-31, and dished out 23 assists while forcing 21 turnovers, despite committing 18 of their own.

 

Schuylkill was led by Shannon Kenney with 16 points and eight rebounds, while Laneesha Harrison added 14 points for the Lady Lions.

 

The Roaring Lions return to action on Saturday, Dec. 17 at 7:00 p.m. as they host Waynesburg in a non-conference tilt.
