Roaring Lions Topple Penn College, 87-66

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Sophomore Jill Guthrie (Uniontown, Pa.) scored a game-high 27 points, grabbed nine rebounds and recorded a career-high nine steals to lead Penn State Fayette past Penn College, 87-66, in a Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference match-up Saturday afternoon.

 

The Roaring Lions (4-4, 3-0 PSUAC) never trailed against the Wildcats, and led 39-27 at halftime, before leading by as many as 24 in the second half. Fayette shot 40 percent from the field, going 36-for-90. The shot total is a program record. The Roaring Lions pulled down 22 offensive rebounds to contribute to the shot total, despite being outrebounded by Penn College, 57-53.

 

Freshman Caitlin Wontroba (Uniontown, Pa.) scored 21 points and notched five steals for Fayette, wile junior Kaitlyn Novak (Bobtown, Pa.) added 16 points and eight assists. Guthrie added five assists and shot 13-for-22 from the field.

 

Fayette forced 43 Wildcat turnovers, capitalizing with 41 points off those takeaways. Despite struggling from behind the three-point arc, Fayette dominated the paint, outscoring the Wildcats, 26-14, in the lane.

 

Penn College was led by Dana Reed with 19 points and 10 rebounds, while Mackenzie Brown added 12 points and Kierstin Steer chipped in 11.

 

The Roaring Lions begin a five-game home stand on Sunday, Jan. 8 as they host Rochester College in a non-conference game for a 2:00 p.m. tip-off.
