UNIONTOWN, Pa. - Rochester College used a distinct size advantage to roll to a 75-58 win over Penn State Fayette in a non-conference women's basketball game on Sunday in the Community Center Main Arena.
Fayette (4-5, 3-0 PSUAC) went 17-for-61 from the field, only 28 percent, and struggled from behind the three-point arc, making only two of seventeen attempts. Rochester collected seven blocks on the day to contribute to the Roaring Lions' shooting woes.
Sophomore Jill Guthrie (Uniontown, Pa.) led Fayette with a double-double, collecting 18 points and 11 rebounds. Junior Kasey Ruble (Fairchance, Pa.) added 12 points and a team-high three assists for the Roaring Lions, while freshman Caitlin Wontroba (Uniontown, Pa.) rounded out the Fayette players in double figures with 11 points.
Rochester outrebounded Fayette, 46-42, and received 27 points from their bench. The Lady Warriors shot 42 percent from the field, including 13-for-30 from behind the arc.
Despite dominating trips to the free throw line, Fayette was unable to climb out of a first half hole, including trailing 37-22 at the half. Rochester led by as many as 26 in the second half, although the teams were about even, 38-36 in the stanza. The Roaring Lions were 22-for-33 from the free throw line, while Rochester made 10 of their 18 attempts.
The Lady Warriors were led by Sam Tomaschko with 15 points and a game-high 17 rebounds. Jazzmone Russle scored 16 points and Ka'imana Ka'aikala scored 14 for Rochester.
Fayette hosts Point Park on Tuesday, Jan. 10 at 7:00 p.m., in the middle of a five-game home stand.
