Roaring Lions Drop Non-Conference Tilt to Carlow, 71-47

January 11, 2012

UNIONTOWN, Pa. - Finishing a grueling stretch of four games in five days, Penn State Fayette's women's basketball team couldn't match Carlow, falling to the Celtics, 71-47, in a non-conference match-up in the Community Center Main Arena.

Fayette beat conference foe Penn College on Saturday before three straight losses to non-conference opponents Rochester College, NAIA member Point Park, and Carlow.

The Roaring Lions (4-7, 3-0 PSUAC) placed two players in double figures, as senior Jennifer Thomas (Uniontown, Pa.) and and freshman Caitlin Wontroba (Uniontown, Pa.) paced Fayette with 10 points each. Sophomore Shelby Yourchik (Clarksville, Pa.) grabbed a game-high eight rebounds, while Thomas added seven. Senior Heather Burton (Uniontown, Pa.) and junior Kaitlyn Novak (Bobtown, Pa.) added eight points each for the Roaring Lions.

Carlow took advantage of Fayette's tired legs, scoring 23 points off of 21 Roaring Lions' turnovers. The Celtics also dominated the paint, outrebounding Fayette, 58-33, and outscoring the Roaring Lions in the lane, 34-6.

Fayette shot just under 25 percent from the field, their lowest percentage since the opening game of the season, making 15 shots on 62 attempts. Meanwhile, Carlow shot nearly 42 percent from the field, despite missing all five of their three-point field goal attempts.

Carlow was led by Erin Disanti with 14 points, while Angelica Pantojas added 13 and Danielle Lindsey chipped in 10 points.

Fayette takes a short two-day hiatus before returning to the court for a conference tilt with Penn State Mont Alto on Saturday, Jan. 14 at 1:00 p.m.
