Penn State Fayette Downs Penn State Mont Alto, 81-37

UNIONTOWN, Pa. - Penn State Fayette downed Penn State Mont Alto, 81-37, in a conference match-up Saturday in the Community Center Main Arena. The Roaring Lions (5-7, 4-0 PSUAC) used defensive pressure to pull away in the first half and remain undefeated in Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference play, and only allowed the Lady Lions to tie the score two times early.

 

Fayette was led by junior Kasey Ruble (Fairchance, Pa.), who collected 20 points on a perfect shooting night, going 8-for-8 from the field. Senior Heather Burton (Uniontown, Pa.) pulled down a career high 13 rebounds to go along with nine points, while freshman Caitlin Wontroba (Uniontown, Pa.) added 19 points. Junior Kaitlyn Novak (Bobtown, Pa.) scored 17 points and added six assists for the Roaring Lions, while senior Jennifer Thomas (Uniontown, Pa.) finished with 10 points and a game-high six steals.

 

Despite a sluggish start for both teams, the Roaring Lions took an early lead and extended it to 39-18 at halftime. Fayette forced 39 turnovers and collected 33 points off of the takeaways. In the paint, Fayette outscored Mont Alto, 46-8.

 

Fayette shot 40 percent from the field, despite struggling from three-point range, going 3-for-15 from behind the arc. The Roaring Lions outrebounded the Lady Lions, 54-48, including 22 offensive rebounds.

 

Mont Alto was led by Anna Angle, who notched a double-double with 14 points and 16 rebounds. Morgan Maslanik added eight rebounds and four points for the Lady Lions.


Fayette returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 21 at 1:00 p.m. as they host Penn State Scranton in a conference crossover game.
