Roaring Lions Outlast Penn State Wilkes-Barre, 71-63

LEHMAN, Pa. - Penn State Fayette received 17 points from junior Kaitlyn Novak (Bobtown, Pa.) and took advantage of free throw opportunities en route to a 71-63 win over Penn State Wilkes-Barre (5-12, 3-6 PSUAC) in a Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference contest on Saturday in the Athletics and Recreation Building at Wilkes-Barre.

 

Despite struggling from the field--Fayette shot just 27 percent, including 6-for-21 from three point range--the Roaring Lions (7-9, 6-1 PSUAC) used an aggressive offense to get to the free throw line 39 times on the day, making 31, to seal the crossover win.

 

Junior Kasey Ruble (Fairchance, Pa.) narrowly missed a double-double, securing nine rebounds to go with her 15 points. Senior Jennifer Thomas (Uniontown, Pa.) added 11 points and nine rebounds, while sophomore Jill Guthrie (Uniontown, Pa.) grabbed five steals.

 

Fayette led 37-31 at the half, and extended their lead to as many as 14 with 7:00 left to play. The Roaring Lions forced 24 turnovers on the afternoon.

 

Wilkes-Barre was led by Tiaira Brathwaite with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Molly Dincher added a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 15 rebounds.

 

Fayette returns to action on Tuesday, Jan. 31 when they travel to PSUAC Western Division foe Penn State Greater Allegheny for a 6:00 p.m. tip-off. The Lady Lions sit a game behind Fayette in the Western Division standings with a 6-3 conference mark.
