Strong Second Half Propels Fayette Over Hazleton

HAZLETON – Fayette used aa strong second half to defeat Penn State Hazleton 51-35 on Friday to snap a three-game losing streak.

Trailing 25-18 near the end of the first half, Jill Guthrie's (Uniontown, Pa.) half-court shot banked home just before the buzzer sending the Roaring Lions into the locker room trailing by just four.

That seemed to spark the Roaring Lions as they ripped off the first 14 points of the second half. In the end, Fayette outscored the Lady Lions 30-10 for the half to secure their sixth victory of the year and improve to 5-1 in PSUAC play.

Caitlin Wontroba (Uniontown, Pa.) led the way with 14 points to go along with five steals. Guthrie added 12 and grabbed eight rebounds. Kasey Ruble (Fairchance, Pa.) pulled down 10 rebounds and added six assists while Kaitlyn Novak (Bobtown, Pa.) grabbed eight rebounds.

With the win, Fayette improves to 6-8 and will complete the team's first eastern road trip with a game against Penn State Wilkes-Barre on Saturday at 1 p.m.
