Fayette Downs Scranton 94-66, Wraps Up Top Seed

UNIONTOWN, Pa. – The Roaring Lions sent their seniors off in style defeating Penn State Worthington Scranton 94-66 to capture the top seed in the upcoming PSUAC tournament.

 

Seniors Heather Burton (Uniontown, Pa.) and Jennifer Thomas (Uniontown, Pa.) started their final regular season home game, as did Natasha Cage (Mather, Pa.) who will be moving on to University Park next year.

 

All three left their mark on the game. Burton scored a season-high 12 points and Thomas pulled down eight rebounds, while Cage swished a three pointer.

 

Fayette broke open a tight game midway through the first half en route to a 53-34 halftime lead and never looked back.

 

Jill Guthrie (Uniontown, Pa.) led the Roaring Lions with 23, five rebounds and five steals.  Caitlin Wontroba (Uniontown, Pa.) added 20 to go with seven steals and four assists. Shelby Yourchik (Clarksville, Pa.) added 11 and Kaitlyn Novak 10.

 

With the win, the Roaring Lions improve to 13-10, 12-2 in the PSUAC and move on to the semifinals of the PSUAC Championships at Mont Alto against the winner of Monday's game between Penn State DuBois and Penn State Greater Allegheny.
