Women Break Losing Skid with 79-66 Win Over Maine Fort Kent.

LEMONT FURNACE, Pa. – The Roaring Lions used surges late in both halves to defeat #13 Maine Fort Kent 79-66 on Thursday afternoon.

 

With eight minutes to play in the first half and Fayette trailing by 10, Kasey Ruble (Fairchance, Pa.) scored on a fast break layup to key an 18-run that gave the Lady Roaring Lions a 37-33 lead.

 

Samantha Capallucci's put back brought the Lady Bengals to within two, 54-52 at the 10 minute mark of the second half.

 

Shannon Flament (Charleroi, Pa.) scored off a nifty pass from Caitlin Wontroba (Uniontown, Pa.) to ignite a 13-2 Fayette run capped off by another Flament layup.

 

Fayette opened up a 19-point lead with just under four minutes to play and coasted to its first non-conference win of the year.

 

In all, Fayette placed five players in double figures. Ruble led the Lady Roaring Lions with 17 points and five assists while pulling down nine rebounds. Jill Guthrie (Uniontown, Pa.) notched a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Wontroba had 15 to to go along with a career-high seven assists and five rebounds.

 

Kaitlyn Novak (Bobtown, Pa.) continued her hot hand with 11 points and two steals. Flament scored 10 off the bench and Carley Gruss (Conemaugh Twp.) added eight points and eight rebounds.

 

The difference came on second chance points with Fayette outscored owning 21-7 advantage.

 

Jennifer Colpitts notched a double-double for the Lady Bengals with 23 points and 13 rebounds.

Carapellucci also added 23 and five rebounds while Taylor Boucher added 10.

 

Fayette (4-6, 3-0) returns to action on Saturday when they travel to Penn State Mont Alto for a 1 p.m. tip.
