Off to Brandywine: Lady Roaring Lions Punch Ticket to Semifinals

LEMONT FURNACE, Pa. -- Ticket punched. For the third consecutive year, the Lady Roaring Lions are headed to the PSUAC Final Four. Fayette punched its ticket with a convincing 66-44 win over Penn State York on Tuesday in the Lions Den.

After spotting York the first six points of the game, the Lady Roaring Lions used a 29-9 run to take control of the game. Kasey Ruble (Fairchance, Pa.) started with run with a three from the left side. A jumper and a three from Caitlin Wontroba (Uniontown, Pa.) and one from Kaitlyn Novak (Bobtown, Pa.) followed and Fayette was off to the races.

Fayette took a 34-18 lead into the locker room at halftime.  Brittany Kint's jumper with 15 minutes to play pulled York to within nine. But the Lions would get no closer and when Wontroba buried a three from the top of the key with seven minutes left, the lead was 20.

Wontroba led all scorers with 21 points. Ruble had 20 and five assists. Novak had 11 and seven assists. Shannon Flament (Charleroi, Pa.) pulled down 11 rebounds and Carly Gruss (Johnstown, Pa.) six for Fayette.

The Roaring Lions (13-9, 12-3) advance to the PSUAC Quarterfinals where they will face third-seeded Penn State Beaver on Saturday  at 4 p.m.  at Penn State Brandywine (Media, Pa.)
