Lady Roaring Lions notch 78-60 win over DuBois

LEMONT FURNACE, Pa. – The Lady Roaring Lions placed four players in double figures en route to a 78-60 win over Penn State Dubois in the conference opener.

Trailing by seven with 10 minutes left in the first half, Courtney Haines (Albert Gallatin) started and ended a 15-3 run with a made free throw to start the run and by the time she hit a layup with six minutes left, the Fayette (2-4, 1-0) held a lead they would not relinquish.

The Lady Roaring Lions took at 38-31 lead into the locker room at the half. They outscored Dubois (1-5, 0-1) 40-29 in the second half to clinch the first PUSAC win of the season.

Haines led the way with 17 points, three rebounds and a pair of steals. Sophomore Tara Neely (Trinity Christian) added 15, along with seven rebounds and four assists.

Caitlin Wontroba (Laurel Highlands) and Kaitlin Miller (Bald Eagle) each added 14. Wontroba dished out five assists, pulled down eight rebounds and that three steals. Milled grabbed eight rebounds and added a blocked shot.

Jill Guthrie (Uniontown) narrowly missed a double-double, notching nine points and grabbing 13 rebounds in her first home game since tearing her ACL on Jan. 10, 2013 in a game against Maine Fort-Kent.

The Lady Roaring Lions are on the road Tuesday, traveling to Penn State Greater Allegheny in what will be a key matchup of friendly rivals in the PSUAC West. Game time is 6 p.m. and can be heard on WMBS 590-AM and the MSA Sports Network.
