Albany Pharmacy drops Fayette 63-52 in USCAA Quarterfinals

LEMONT FURNACE, Pa. – Defending champion Albany College of Pharmacy ended the Lady Roaring Lions hopes of advancing to the semifinals of the USCAA Women's Division II National Championship on Friday with a 63-52 win on Thursday.

Albany Pharmacy opened the game with a 21-6 run to take control of the game early.  Fayette chipped away and Kaitlin Miller's (Bald Eagle, Pa.) layup just before the end of the half got the Lady Roaring Lions to within 12 at the break.

Rochelle Witten's free throw with just under seven to play gave Albany a 21-point lead. Fayette closed with a 12-1 run but it turned out to be too late to prevent the Lady Roaring Lions from dropping into the consolation bracket.

Jill Guthrie (Uniontown, Pa.) notched the double-double in her final game in the Main Arena, scoring 20 and grabbing 10 rebounds. Miller scored 11 and pulled down 8 rebounds while Caitlin Wontroba (Uniontown, Pa.) added 10 with four assists.

Fayette will close it season tomorrow when it faces Maine Augusta at 2:00 p.m. at the Maltho Athletic Complex.
