Late Surge Not Enough For Fayette
Lemont Furnace, PA - The Lady Lions of Penn State Fayette, the Eberly Campus fought hard for the duration of the 40 minutes, but fell short to Penn State Beaver who improves to 7-1 in PSUAC play. In what looked like two heavy-weight boxers feeling each other out for the first few rounds, the opening six minutes watched the rivals exchange jabs, looking for an opening. Fayette then rattled off a 14-7 run capped off by a made free throw by sophomore forward Kaitlin Miller. Beaver then made a run of their own, stealing the momentum from the Lady Lions and headed to the locker room with a 41-34 lead.
The two teams traded buckets for the first few minutes of the second half, until freshman guard Ally Rudolph pulled Fayette to within three points with a mid-ranged jumper. Rudolph grabbed scoring honors for the Lady Lions, as she poured in 17 points.
After a few more minutes of trading hoops, Beaver began to pull away, out-scoring Fayette by 20 in the last 14 minutes of play.
Sophomore guard Kelsey Laurine and freshman guard Haley Moreland each posted 12 points. Fayette out-rebounded Beaver, led by Miller, who pulled down 9 boards. Sophomore forward Courtney Haines was two rebounds shy of a double-double. Haines finished with 10 points and 8 rebounds. Sharing with Haines in the rebounding column was freshman forward Jackie Halapy, who finished with six points to compliment her 8 rebounds.
Junior forward Shannon Flament continued her hot shooting streak, as she went 3-4 from the field while collecting three steals. Flament finished with 7 points.
The Lady Lions are back in action Saturday, when they host Penn State Mont Alto. Tipoff is slated for 5 PM.
