Fayette drops home opener to SUNY Delhi, 70-74

Lemont Furnace, PA – The Penn State Fayette women's basketball team are back in action for the 2017-2018 season. Last season, they had a successful season and made it to the playoffs, but were defeated by Penn State Brandywine. The Roaring Lions were eager to start the season off on a good note and to get back to the PSUAC playoffs. On November 4th, Penn State Fayette would open the season at home in the Community Center Gym at 7:00 PM. The opponent for the first home game of the season would be the SUNY Delhi Broncos in a non-conference match.

Penn State Fayette would be defeated by SUNY Delhi, 74-70. Both teams fought hard with a lot of physical play in the paint. In the first quarter, Penn State Fayette would record 13 points to SUNY Delhi's 11 points. Haley Moreland and Ashley Sharp recorded 4 points apiece. Taylor Harbaugh would tally 3 points. SUNY Delhi would get momentum and respond with 18 points to Fayette's 15 points in the second quarter to take into halftime.

Penn State Fayette would re-group and respond in the 3rd quarter. Haley Moreland came out and played a great 3rd quarter and led the Roaring Lions with 13 points. Penn State Fayette would led 51-43 going into the 4th quarter. SUNY Delhi would come out strong and outscore the Roaring Lions, 31-19. Penn State Fayette would attempt to tie the game, but would come up short. For the Roaring Lions, Hannah Kline would have 9 points. Ashley Sharp and Haley Moreland would both have 19 points for the Roaring Lions. Melissa Bochnak had 5 points and Taylor Harbaugh tallied 18 points. Penn State Fayette was 36.2% from the field and 37.5% from three-point range. The Roaring Lions would record 27 rebounds and 19 turnovers. It was the not the outcome that the Roaring Lions wanted, but they did not have a full roster and still were able to make great plays during the game.

Looking ahead, Penn State Fayette will look to bounce back from the first game of the season. The Roaring Lions will travel to Charlotte, North Carolina this weekend. Penn State Fayette will participate in the 2017 Johnson & Wales Tip-off Tournament. The first game will take place on Friday, but the time is yet to be determined. On Saturday, Penn State Fayette will play at 5:00 PM.
