Lady Roaring Lions tops Butler CC; Moreland achieves milestone

Lemont Furnace, PA – The women's basketball team have lost the first three games of the season. The first game was a close one at home against SUNY Delhi and the other two were at the Johnson & Wales Tipoff Tournament. The women's team would have a nice three week break to regroup and practice for their final game for the month of November. The Lady Roaring Lions would travel with the men's basketball team to take on Butler County Community College in a non-conference game. The Lady Roaring Lions were well-rested and ready to win their first game of the 2017-2018 season.

The Penn State Fayette women's basketball team would defeat Butler County Community College, 66-62, to capture their first win of the season.

An outstanding achievement was earned at this game. Senior, Haley Moreland, would record her 1,000th point of her collegiate basketball career. Moreland has been a team leader on the court and the scoresheet. Once accomplished this achievement, it gave a spark to the Roaring Lions to finish the game strong. Fayette would score 24 points in the 1st quarter, 19 points in the 2nd and 3rd quarters, and 7 points in the 4th quarter. Butler County Community College would play a great game defensively and made clutch shots to even the score late in the game, but the Roaring Lions would not let them take the game away as they were able to finish off Butler County Community College at the end. Haley Moreland would have her best game of the season. Moreland scored 21 points for Fayette. Taylor Harbaugh had a great game as well with 18 points on the night. Ashley Sharp tallied 11 points and Melissa Bochnak would post 8 points that would help contribute to the victory. Hannah Kline and Emily Moccaldi would both have 4 points for the Roaring Lions. The victory would be a boost for the men's team as they would take on the men's team for Butler County Community College at 7:00 PM.
