Big weekend for Lady Roaring Lions

Lemont Furnace, PA – The first win of the season was captured by the Lady Roaring Lions in late November against Butler County Community College. December was right around the corner and Fayette would have two conference opponents to start off the new month. The Lady Roaring Lions would be on the road with the men's team to take on Penn State Worthington Scranton Friday night and Penn State Wilkes-Barre on Saturday. The women's team were looking to continue their win streak and to take the first two PSUAC games of the season.

On Friday, both the men's and women's basketball teams traveled to Scranton, PA to take on Penn State Worthington Scranton. The women's team would play first at 6:00 PM. The game would start off with both teams making great plays early. Ashley Sharp would record 9 points in the 1st quarter to lead the Lady Roaring Lions early. Haley Moreland would contribute to the score with 12 points in the first half. With every basket for Fayette, Worthington Scranton would respond. At the end of the 1st half, Worthington Scranton would have a 1 point lead with the score, 41-40.

After the half, Moreland would come out of the half and lead Fayette early, but Worthington Scranton would play great defense and capitalize on their opportunities to take the lead going into the 4th quarter. Fayette would come together and respond in the 4th quarter. The starting 6 for Fayette would all make clutch shots and would work together to shut down all the attempts from Worthington Scranton. Hannah Kline and Melissa Bochnak tallied 4 points each. Ashley Sharp would have a great 4th quarter with 7 points and 2 steals for Fayette. Haley Moreland would tally 7 points as well for Fayette. Taylor Harbaugh had two big rebounds and posted 6 points. The Lady Roaring Lions would score 24 points in the 4th quarter to take the lead and the game with the final score of 77-74. Fayette was 40.5% from the field and 47.1% from 3-point range. It was a great team win for the first conference game of the season. The Lady Roaring Lions were satisfied with the result, but switched their focus to the next opponent, Penn State Wilkes-Barre.

On Saturday, The Lady Roaring Lions were looking to add another win to their streak in Wilkes-Barre, PA against Penn State Wilkes-Barre. The game would start the same as the previous game at Worthington Scranton, where both teams would respond to each other's baskets early. It remained close during the first half with Wilkes-Barre taking a 3 point lead after the 1st quarter, but Fayette would cut the lead to 2 points at half-time with the score being 33-31, Penn State Wilkes-Barre. Ashley Sharp would have 12 points and lead Fayette going into the half.

During the 2nd half, Fayette would come out slow and were unable to make shots. They would only record 12 points during the 3rd quarter. Wilkes-Barre would extend their lead as the 4th quarter approached. The 4th quarter was the turnaround point for the Lady Roaring Lions. They would have a new game-plan and would be dominant in the paint. Taylor Harbaugh posted 8 points and 3 rebounds. Haley Moreland recorded 7 points in the 4th to help lead the Lady Roaring Lions to victory. Fayette would score 19 points in the 4th to win the game, 62-59. It was a great weekend of basketball for the Lady Roaring Lions. They would extend their win streak to 3 games in a row. Also, they would become (2-0) in the PSUAC.

Coming up, the Lady Roaring Lions have a full week of practice and preparation before their next game. The women's team will look to continue the win streak against another PSUAC opponent, Penn State Beaver. The Lady Roaring Lions will travel to Beaver, PA on Friday, December 8th to take on Penn State Beaver. The game is set to begin at 6:00 PM.
