WBB falls to Potomac State

Keyser, WV - One week into the college basketball season, and the Penn State Fayette women's team has found the injury bug.

Saturday afternoon in its 59-48 loss to Potomac State, Fayette (1-3) played without three injured starters yet held the lead going into the fourth quarter.

Head coach Scott Hillen is frustrated with the injuries but knows no one can do anything about them and is pushing forward with his young team.

"We will not use the injuries as excuses," said Hillen. "Poor shooting and foul trouble cost us this game."

Fayette only hit 13 out of 47 (28%) shots, including only making two out of 14 (14%) three-point attempts, and it only made 13 of 26 (50%) free throw attempts.

After trailing 11-9 after the first quarter, Fayette outscored Potomac State 19-15 in the second quarter to take a 28-26 lead into halftime.

The teams each scored 14 points in the third quarter and Fayette began the fourth quarter with a 42-40 lead, but it was outscored 19-6 in the fourth quarter.

Dae-lin Burnsworth (Monarch, PA/Connellsville HS) led the Nittany Lions with 15 points while Carissa Cyphert (Scottsdale, PA/Southmoreland HS) scored 10 points.

Shelbie Brown (Camden, OH/Preble Shawnee HS) and Taylor Costa (Donora, PA/Ringgold HS) each grabbed 11 rebounds while Taylor Harbaugh (Pittsburgh, PA/Our Lady of Sacred Heart HS) had four steals.

The Nittany Lions return to action Monday when it heads to Butler County Community College.
