Lady Nittany Lions falls to Butler Pioneers
Butler, Pa - Depth issues continued to plague the Penn State Fayette women's basketball team Monday night in its 76-70 loss to Butler County Community College.
"We were able to build a late lead again, but we missed key foul shots and critical mistakes cost us," said head coach Scott Hillen. "Hopefully we can get a few players back from injury soon to help our depth."
Seven players dressed for Fayette (1-4), and six of them combined to play 198 of the 200 total played minutes.
Down 18-14 after one quarter, Fayette outscored the hosts 23-15 in the second quarter to take a 37-33 led at the half.
The Nittany Lions extended their lead to 59-49 after three quarters, but BCCC outscored Fayette in the fourth quarter, 27-11, to pull out the win.
Dae-lin Burnsworth (Monarch, PA/Connellsville HS) led Fayette with 28 points while Taylor Costa (Donora, PA/Ringgold HS) had another double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds and Carissa Cyphert (Scottsdale, PA/Southmoreland HS) scored 10 points off of the bench.
Shelbie Brown (Camden, OH/Preble Shawnee HS) grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds for Fayette.
The Nittany Lions shot 38% (19-50) from the field and made six of 21 (29%) three-pointers.
Fayette has a quick turn-around as it heads to Lorain County Community College Tuesday for its second game in 24 hours.
