Women's basketball drops PSUAC season opener

Wilkes-Barre, PA - The Penn State Fayette women's basketball team had two freshman starters, Bailey Vig (California, PA/California HS) and Kaitlyn Riley (Charleroi, PA/Charleroi HS), return to the lineup from injury Friday night and both players finished in double figures for the Nittany Lions with 23 and 11 points, respectively, but the team still fell short in its PSUAC opener at Penn State Wilkes-Barre, 71-64.

"It is good to have a little more depth, and now we have to get used to playing with more players back," said head coach Scott Hillen. "We showed glimpses, but we still have work to do.

"If we would have made a few more baskets, we would have won."

Down 21-14 after the first quarter, Fayette battled back to tie the score at the half, 29-29.

As has been the case thus far this season, Fayette (1-6, 0-1 PSUAC) faltered in the second half as it dropped its sixth game.

Taylor Costa (Donora, PA/Ringgold HS) continued her hot play as she finished with nine points and 15 rebounds.

Fayette will look to end its four-game losing streak Saturday, December 1 when it heads to Penn State Scranton.
