WBB earns first conference win at PS-Scranton

Scranton, PA - Taylor Costa (Donora, PA/Ringgold HS), Bailey Vig (California, PA/California HS) and Lyndsey Huhn (California, PA/California HS) all hit double figures in leading the Penn State Fayette women's basketball team to its first PSUAC win of the season Saturday over Penn State Scranton, 65-54.

Costa finished with 19 points and nine rebounds, Vig had 15 points and Huhn had 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds.

Head coach Scott Hillen said his team's early defense dictated the offensive output.

"We played great defensively in the first half," he said. "In holding them to 15 points in the first half, we were able to make things happen.

"Our intensity wasn't as good in the second half as we let up, but we pulled it out and will learn from the game."

Up 5-4, Fayette went on an 11-0 run to take control of the game and would lead 34-15 at the half.

Scranton outscored Fayette 39-31 in the second half, but Fayette's leaded remained in double figures until the late moments of the game.

Dae-lin Burnsworth (Monarch, PA/Connellsville HS) played a solid all-around game for Fayette as she finished with seven points, six rebounds and four assists.

Fayette shot 35.3% for the game (24-68) but was only 3-15 from (20%) from three-point land while Scranton shot 35.2% (19-54) from the field overall and 46.2% (6-13) on three-pointers.

Monique Hicks led Scranton with a game-high 20 points.

Fayette opens its home schedule Wednesday when it hosts Penn State DuBois in a PSUAC conference game at 6 p.m.
