WBB wins sixth straight, clinches 2nd in PSUAC West

Lemont Furnace, PA - The Penn State Fayette women's basketball team won its sixth straight game Saturday afternoon as they downed Penn State Mont Alto, 69-59.

With the win, Fayette (15-6, 10-4) has clinched second place in the Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference's (PSUAC) West Division.

"It was another great team effort," said head coach Scott Hillen. "Once again, we were the smaller team but fought hard on the boards and played good team defense."

Kaitlyn Riley (Charleroi, PA/Charleroi HS), Taylor McCormick (Laurel, MD/Eleanor Roosevelt HS) and Brooke Poling (Perryopolis, PA/Frazier HS) led the way for Fayette.  Riley recorded her ninth double-double of the season, and her third straight with 23 points and 13 rebounds while McCormick finished with 20 points and Poling had 12 points and seven rebounds.

A big difference was at the charity stripe as Fayette made 20 of 23 attempts (87%) while Mont Alto only hit six of 10 attempts (60%).

"We had a balanced attack on offense and shot great from the foul line," Hillen added.

The success at the foul line was crucial for Fayette as it only shot 29% (21-73) from the floor while Mont Alto shot 35% (23-66).  Both teams made seven of 21 attempts (33%) from beyond the arc.

Fayette led 24-19 after the first quarter and 40-27 at the half.  Mont Alto trimmed Fayette's lead to 56-49 after the third, but Fayette's lead never shrank below six points in the fourth.

Fayette hosts Penn State Greater Allegheny Tuesday in a PSUAC conference game.  Tipoff is set for 1 PM.
