WBB moves into first with win

The Penn State women's basketball team won its third consecutive Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) game in a row Tuesday night with an 83-48 win at Penn State New Kensington, and it now sits tied for first in the PSUAC West division.

"We started slow, but Morgan (Rigsby) was a spark plug for us tonight," said head coach Scott Hillen. "Our team defense also got us going, and hopefully we can build on things moving forward."

Rigsby (West Portsmith, OH/West Portsmith HS) finished with a double-double as she had 10 points and a career-high 17 rebounds as she recorded her third straight double-double.

Taylor McCormick (Laurel, MD/Eleanor Roosevelt HS) finished with game-highs of 27 points and seven steals while adding eight assists.  Ally Boykin (Canton, OH/Canton McKinley HS) had 23 points and nine rebounds.  The duo combined to make 20 of 40 shots for the game.  Abby Bickerton (Elizabeth, PA/Elizabeth Forward HS) also hit double figures as she scored 11 points off the bench.

While New Kensington (0-9 overall, 0-6 PSUAC) shot 56.4 percent (22-39) from the floor, Fayette (5-4, 4-2) forced it into 38 turnovers, and Fayette converted those into 46 points.  Fayette shot 40.2 percent from the floor (33-82).

After a limited 14-10 lead after one quarter, Fayette turned in on as it outscored New Kensington 22-14 in the second, 22-10 in the third and 25-14 in the fourth.

Fayette held every major advantage statistically in the game as it led in rebounds (44-30), assists (23-16), second chance points (17-2), points in the paint (40-18) and bench points (15-2).

The win leaves Fayette tied with Penn State Beaver (5-4, 4-2) atop the PSUAC West division as it heads on the road for two more conference games this weekend.  It heads to undefeated Penn State York (10-0, 5-0) Friday for a 5 p.m. tipoff, with York sitting a half-game behind Penn State Schuylkill (7-5, 6-0) for first place in the PSUAC East division.  Saturday, Fayette is at Penn State Mont Alto (3-5, 1-4) for a 1 p.m. tip.
