WBB wins sixth straight

The Penn State Fayette women's basketball team stepped out of conference play Wednesday and the Nittany Lions picked up their sixth straight win with a 70-52 home win over Trinity Washington.

Fayette started slow as it trailed 11-6 after the first quarter and 29-24 at the half, but a 25-8 advantage in the third gave the Nittany Lions a 49-37 heading into the fourth.

"We had a slow start and just a bad shooting first half, but overall, this was a great team effort," said Fayette coach Scott Hillen.  "Our defense was solid, despite us trailing at the half.  Ally Boykin was a spark for us offensively to start the second half and scored 10 straight points.  She had a career night for us offensively.  Our defense really came alive in the second half, and it carried over to the offense.  Abby Bickerton blocking shots on defense was a huge spark for us and Morgan Rigsby had another double-double.  Taylor (McCormick) played great as well.  She didn't have her typical big scoring night, but she leads us."

After shooting 29.4 percent (10 for 34) from the floor in the first half, the Nittany Lions shot 51.2 percent (20 of 39) in the second half to finish at 41.1 percent (30 for 73).

Boykin (Canton, OH/Canton McKinley HS) had a career-high and game-high 27 points to lead Fayette.  Bickerton (Elizabeth, PA/Elizabeth Forward HS) had a career-high three blocks and was a defensive presence for Fayette.  Rigsby (West Portsmith, OH/West Portsmith HS) had 14 points and 11 rebounds to record her sixth double-double of the season.

The Nittany Lions will now shift their focus back on Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) play and will try to hold on to first place in the West division.

Fayette (11-5 overall, 8-3 PSUAC) hosts Penn State Brandywine (7-13, 4-7) at 3 p.m. Saturday and hosts PSUAC East division leading Penn State Lehigh Valley (14-3, 11-0) Sunday at 1 p.m.
